The Hole in Our Gospel: Six-Week Quest
Starting September 19, join us on a six-week quest as East Saugatuck Church begins a new message series entitled, "The Hole in Our Gospel." Based on the book by Richard Stearns, president of World Vision, we'll take a look together at what bringing the good news of the gospel truly means. A brief portion from the book:
"The word gospel literally means 'good news.' Jesus declared that He had come to 'preach good news to the poor' (Luke 4:18). But what good news, what gospel, did the Church have for Richard and his brothers [African orphans] in Rakai? What 'good news' have God’s people brought to the world’s three billion poor? What 'gospel' have millions of Africa’s AIDS orphans seen? What gospel have most of us embraced in the twenty-first century? The answer is found in the title of this book: a gospel with a hole in it."
Join us as we are challenged by the stories of Jesus' life and the parables He told; challenged to care for the poor, the widows, and the orphans both in our own communities and across the world. We pray that this will bring a new perspective on what God has called us to do, and transform others through the power of the whole gospel.
